The Journey |
18" x 24" - $2400 |
And now for something different... neither Ireland nor Echo Lake, even though both locations have been been a big part of the journey. This painting is all about the journey of aging, or should I say the journey of living? The surprises, the nervousness, the wealth of happy memories that keep popping up, the private fears, the blessed comfort of long lasting love in your life, if you're lucky enough to have that. I certainly do. The words are from the beautiful, if in the end unsettling, lyrics of James Taylor's "You Can Close Your Eyes," which sums it up pretty well... the sun keeps setting, the moon rising, the world keeps turning, and love makes sense of it all. I spared no effort convincing two men to model for me, one a newly married man in his forties back around 1988 and the other an older gentleman, a painter like me, who is in his eighties.
