Allihies lies at the most southwesterly point of
Ireland,
at
the end of the Beara Pennisula, on
the
Ring of Beara road,
pinned between the
Atlantic
and the mountains. The parish
church,
known locally
as "the new church," was built in
1845,
and is
painted a bright orange.
