Back in the late 1970s a single mother in Oklahoma packed her children and all her worldly possessions into her 25 year old Ford truck and drove to upstate New York. They arrived with no money and sold the truck for $235 to a couple of local men who promptly named the truck, "Okie." After several years of faithful duty it was retired and parked up in the woods above the beaver pond where it remained until the late winter of 2011 when it was sold for scrap metal... but thankfully not before Karen and I came across it on a hike and I took several photos of it. (Karen is an Okie too, born in Oklahoma City!) You can read John Buck's fascinating remembrance of "Okie" by clicking here. |
