The inspiration for this painting was provided by an old farmhouse and barn located on a winding dirt road a few miles north of Smithville Flats, NY. The farm is unihabited but nicely maintained, and sits on land first settled in 1830 by Bernard Casey, an Irish immigrant from Dundalk. In 1917 it was sold to the Shipton family who have owned it ever since.
