St. Finbarr's Chapel
|
18" x 24" - oil on canvas - $1900 |
The chapel on St. Finbarr's island in Gougane Lake is one of the most iconic views in all of Ireland. When I saw it this day the chapel was almost completely hidden from view... but the reflection revealed it's hiding place. St. Finbarr, in the 6th century, was founder and first Bishop of the City of Cork. The River Lee originates in this lake and empties into the North Atantic at Cork. Another happy concidence is that the Anglisized version of the Irish name, Fnbarr, is Barry. (Thank you very much.) It's also the source of the word Barra in Gougane Barra. |
